On “Marvel Movies aren’t Cinema” and why not every film has to be high art

Recently Martin Scorsese’s been making some waves … No, nobody’s remaking Taxi Driver … The legend-filmmaker has been quoted saying: “Marvel Movies aren’t cinema” and the nerds are out for revenge. Now, to be fair: Nobody seems to be quoting everything he’s said to Empire magazine. As soon as you reed the full quote a lot of things get a lot clearer: “I don’t see them. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema. Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks.
